The Norwegian Braille Authority

The Norwegian Braille Authority is the entity that develops standards for braille notation in Norway. We have created standards, not only for literary braille, but also for 8-dot braille and for special subjects as mathematics, and chemistry, physics and biology. We also have developed a standard for notation of chess. The handbook for literary braille, the guidelines for layout in braille and the standard for contractions in Norwegian braille is to be found on our website. The others will be posted there in time to come.

The Braille Authority is also concerned with making braille known and used, not only by those who need it to avoid becoming illiterate. It may also be of interest to those who are working with computer representation of braille, to sighted people who have contact with visually impaired, and to those who only are curious about what braille is.
